Have you booked a last-minute driving test and your regular instructor can’t take you to the test?

A driving instructor who is reputable will not allow you to take your driving test without observing your driving skills beforehand. If you do happen to come across an instructor who has unlimited availability and is willing to take you for your test without assessing your driving first, it is advisable to question their credibility as an instructor.

WE ONLY TAKE STUDENTS TO TEST WHEN THE DRIVING INSTRUCTOR IS CONFIDENT THAT THE STUDENT IS TEST-READY. WHEN YOU ARE TEST-READY THE INSTRUCTOR WILL ADVISE YOU TO LOOK AT BOOKING YOUR DRIVING TEST.

Difficulties in finding another driving instructor

Most reputable driving instructors in the UK are not keen on taking on new pupils who have a driving test scheduled soon. When a pupil is searching for a new instructor so close to their test, it’s usually because their previous instructor has advised them to postpone their test. Finding another driving instructor at short notice can also be difficult as good quality instructors have limited availability in their schedules.

If you’re looking for an instructor to take you for your test in five days, you may struggle. Additionally, depending on where you live, there may be multiple test centres, so it’s important to keep in mind that if you find an instructor, they may not cover the test centre where you’re booked. For instance, if you’re taking your driving lessons in Ipswich, and you’ve booked your test in Norwich or Colchester. Therefore, if you insist on changing instructors at short notice, this is something you need to consider.

SHORT NOTICE TEST BOOKINGS

Most reputable driving instructors are not keen on accepting new students who have a test approaching soon. When a student seeks a new instructor so close to their test, it is usually because their previous instructor has suggested that they postpone their test. It may also be difficult to find another driving instructor at short notice as good quality instructors have limited availability in their schedules.

If you are searching for an instructor to accompany you for your test in just five days, you may encounter difficulties. No reputable instructor will take you for your driving test without first observing your driving skills. If you do manage to find an instructor with unquestioning availability who is willing to take you for your test without assessing your driving abilities, you should question their credibility as an instructor.

Before making a booking or payment for a short-notice test, please be aware of the following terms and conditions:

1. Booking a Short Notice Test package is £250 which covers five hours of instructor and tuition vehicle time. During the first two hours, your instructor will assess your driving ability. If they determine that you are not ready for the driving test, they will not take you to it. If you require additional tuition before the test, your instructor will inform you.
2. You must be available during your instructor’s available time slots if you wish to take these lessons. If you cannot complete the required hours before your test date, your instructor will not take you for the test. You must pay for five hours of driving lessons before the first lesson begins. This payment is non-refundable if your instructor determines that you are not ready for the test. However, any remaining funds or hours can be used for further driving lessons.
3. The Driving and Vehicle Standards Agency requires three clear working days’ notice to cancel a driving test. Depending on the gap between your first lesson and the test, you may lose your test fee if your instructor determines that you are not ready.
4. If you change your mind and wish to cancel a short-notice test booking before the first lesson, standard cancellation and refund terms apply with at least 48 hours’ notice required. The price of driving lessons is at the standard rate for the relevant postcode area.
